Without question, the bible encourages us to be givers. From the Old Testament times of Abel bringing a sacrifice to God to the New Testament times of giving from the heart, God has always required his people to give. Giving has been a directive of every church; from anniversary services, to bake and chicken sales, car washes and even most recently, weave competitions. Churches are trying to find ways that will encourage people to give. However, there are effective and ineffecive ways to give. Every believer should desire to not only give, but to give effectively. Plainly stated, there are no fundraisers in the scriptures. We were instructed by God to give from the heart in faith, with the expectation of a return.
